1865 Cent, PCGS MS65RB
Here is a another MS65RB Indian Cent we have acquired. This one is the 1865 Plain 5 variety, and it is special for 2 particular reasons. First, it has been approved by both CAC and Rick Snow through his Eagle Eye Photo Seal approval review. Since both of these companies have different evaluation points for approval, very few IC's meet the strict requirements for both.
Second it is a repunched date, the S9. As shown on Page 268 in The Flying Eagle & Indian Cent Attribution Guide (3rd ed., Vol. 1) by Rick Snow, the S9 has repunching on the dateon the 1, 6, and 5. There is also a die line present beneath the 8 and the 6 that fingerprints this variety. Snow notes that the S9 variety carries up to a 2x premium.
This example has no major detractions such as noticeable carbon spots or scratches. Both sides have nice brown patina with lots of red showing underneath giving it the RB designation. A scratch on the slab goes between F and A on the obverse.
This coin is approved by CAC and the Eagle Eye Photo Seal.
