1860-O Dollar, CACG MS64
While 1860-O Liberty Seated Dollars are readily available, quality is limited. In uncirculated, most 1860-O seated dollars grade in the range of MS61 to MS63. While many of these can have frosty devices and strong luster, they almost always come heavily bagged because, well, they sat in mint bags for many decades before the mint released them to the public. How many times were they moved around in their bags (probably roughly), is anyone's guess but the hits are typically aplenty in the lower MS grades. Hence, if one wants one of these with a minimum amount of hits, one has to go up grade. The catch to that is, in MS65, CAC has only stickered 3 of these, and the price starts at about $50,000 if you can find one! So the optimal grade for the 1860-O LSD is MS64, where the eye appeal can be wonderful and the hits are strongly reduced relative to 61-63. CAC has graded or stickered 10 in 64 as of 1/25. One might come available at MS64 once a year, or might not......... This one has subtle amber on the obverse, with hints of sky blue color around the devices on the reverse, minimum bag hits in the fields, and the luster bursts out when viewed under the light. Gorgeous and striking in all ways.
