1834 Quarter, PCGS VF35
This 1834 Small Capped Bust Quarter in VF35 is the B1 die marriage. This is the O/F variety because the O and the F in OF on the reverse are connected at the top of the two letters by a misplaced O in early die states. This example is a late die state and does not have that as the reverse was lapped at some point. However, the remnants of the errant O is evident as a bulge in the upright of the F and noticeable even on this VF example under the lens. This LDS exhibits double and crossing shield clashes below Ms. Liberty's ear on the obverse indicating that the reverse die rotated during striking, and a cool, rim to rim curved die crack below star 1, across her chest and through star 13. The toning is a dappled amber and various shades of blue that emerges prominently under the light. CAC has approved 12 in VF35 for all 5 1834 die marriages, and likely less than half of these are B1's.
This coin is approved by CAC.
