1818 Quarter, PCGS AU55
This is an 1818 Large Capped Bust Quarter in AU55. It is the die marriage B8, considered to be R3. It has blue-green and amber toning mostly around the edges of the obverse and reverse. Nice luster when rotating under the light. It is a later die state as indicated by the reverse shield clash marks within and below Miss Liberty's ear on the obverse, and the die crack/chip beneath lowest leaf on the reverse. Just a gorgeous bust quarter that we have rarely seen at this level of ultra PQ quality in higher AU. To give one an idea about how rare these are in AU55 and 58 grades, as of 7/24, CAC has only stickered 19 in these 2 grades across all 9 of the 1818 die marriages (1818/5 die marriage treated separately). None are stickered in MS61 and only 4 stickered in 62. So this may well be one of 2 or 3 in this die marriage that meets CAC strict requirements for the AU55 to MS62 grades.
This coin is approved by CAC.
